Home Page | What is Kendo?
Kendo has the most ancient tradition in Japanese Culture. At first it was the means of fighting with swords. Kendo was more realized on the battle field considering the natural rules. Kendo can be divided into three parts:
1. A way of body – holding a sword, maai (a special distance dividing two opponents), etc.
2. A way of sword – moving a sword, the exact moment of hitting, etc.
3. A way of consciousness – correct mental relations.
In spite of the fact that such a division gives an appropriate basis for theoretical acknowledgement of Kendo's main elements, in practice they are so tightly related that distinction between them is not always vivid. But the most important thing is that those who study Kendo should study the main constituents and realize that Kendo involves more learning than the means of defeating an opponent.
